I always have a new love and this month it’s this adorable Tin Can Shelf Craft. Not only do they look fantastic but they are practical and a great way to upcycle some of those tin cans we constantly throw away.
Paint your tin can inside and out using either water based enamel or acrylic paint. Both dry really quickly and leave a slight shine when dry.
I used enamel paint for the colour and white acrylic paint for the inside both of which only needed three layers. I did try to use white enamel paint but it was so unforgiving, needed a ridiculous amount of layers and didn’t leave an even coat. I also found that runny bottle acrylic was better to use than the thicker acrylic that comes in tubes.
When dry use a small tack to attach the tin can shelf to the wall. Cut out a circle of paper to cover the back of the tin. I found that the paper doesn’t need to be glued in place which means you can easily change it to suit different toys/ornaments.
The perfect little place for putting all those cute Zelfs, Moshi’s, Trash packes etc.
And small enough to leave little accents all over the house.
This was part of a fab Tin Can Craft Hangout. Do watch for more ideas.

What a clever idea. I am currently mulling over what to put on one kitchen wall that I intend to use for display. The usual chalkboard and hanging hearts of course but looking for more unuaual ideas – love this! I do love upcycling and re-using. I’m sure I’m going to end up doing something like this now. Thanks!

What a fabulous idea. I’m not particularly handy with a paint brush but these do seem super easy to do. Tx

So cute and such a clever idea. Great idea for kids in bunk beds that wear glasses. (sorry, that’s a bit random, but as a kid who wore glasses and slept in a top bunk it was always a problem!)

Love the look of these. How easy are they to get on the wall? I am not great at wall hanging. Did you just hammer the nail through?

Hi, lizzy I hammered the a small nail tack through the tin to make the hole. Then I tapped another nail tack slightly into the wall where I wanted to hang the tin shelf and removed it leaving a small hole in the wall. That allowed me to semi hang the shelf. I then hammered the tack securely in place by placing a large floorboard nail on top of the tack and then hitting it with a hammer … hope that makes sense?! I placed the nail close to the edge of the tin so that it couldn’t rotate.
