Super Simple Feather And Felt Halloween Garland

One of the things I love about Halloween is all the creativity that goes along with it from costumes through to table settings and every year a few more decorative pieces are added to our collection. This year I’ve made a gorgeous Felt Halloween Garland to drape over our mantle. Not only does it look amazing but it’s super easy to make and there’s no sewing and very little gluing (only required if you glitter creepy crawlies!).

Materials Required To Make The Felt Halloween Garland

  • Battery operated white fairy lights (preferably green cable) – I used a set of twenty lights that only cost £1 from our local pound store
  • Black Felt
  • Black feathers
  • Scissors
  • Optional – small plastic creepy crawlies,  glitter (I used gunmetal and silver) plus white (pva) glue.

How To Make The Felt Halloween Garland

1.  Cut your felt in to strips approx 15cm long and and 1cm wide. Don’t worry about being accurate. It actually looks better if they’re slightly different widths.

2.  Starting at one end tie felt strips one after the other around the cable until the whole cable is covered. Use just a single not and pull gently so the knot is small.

3. Slide feathers into the knot fold at irregular intervals along the length of the fairly lights

4. Now at this point you could just leave it as it looks pretty good with just the felt and feathers but you can add a few silver spiders for a bit of spooky sparkle.

5. I bought a pack of mixed sized spiders/ants and covered them with fine polyester glitter (use pva glue to stick the glitter on with).

6. I positioned my garland in situ before deciding where to put the glittered creepy crawlies. I was going to glue them in place but found that he glitter helps them stay in place and didn’t bother with using glue. This actually makes it easier to modify and re-use each year. It would look fantastic used in a table centrepiece or hang over doorways (you’d need to glue the spiders on if used here).
